In what may turn out to be the best news of all time – for me, if no-one else – it seems that Audition director Takashi Miike may be making an Ace Attorney film.

In a recent interview with the Huffington Post, Miike briefly made mention of his next project:

“It is a very light comedy that I am filming now, a court drama, based on a video game, the Nintendo game DS [sic].”

Obviously it’s quite possible that Miike was referring to something other than the Ace Attorney series, but we’re struggling to think of many other DS games that could fit the description.

Miike’s previous works include The Happiness of the Katakuris, Visitor Q and Ichi the Killer. His latest film, 13 Assassins, is supposed to be rather good.

Miike tends to make about three films a year, many of them direct-to-video flicks with outrageous content. His work tends to be extremely violent but he’s also got a great sense of humour. Given how strange and over-the-top his films are, he could be an excellent match for the silver screen exploits of Phoenix Wright and Miles Edgeworth.

Of course, it could still turn out that it’s something else that he’s doing… but man oh man do I want this one to come true.
