Street Fighter brawler Ryu could be heading to Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and 3DS after mentions of the character were discovered hidden within the 1.06 patch data.
Reddit poster shinyquagsire23 managed to decrypt the data from the update and spotted references to Ryu along with EarthBound’s Lucas and Fire Emblem’s Roy. Lucas is the only character of the three to have already been officially announced.
The update also includes a pair of Ryu sound files: one a victory theme and the other his stage music from Street Fighter 2.
Shinyquagsire23 is a well known hacker of Nintendo handhelds, and whilst he says the references to the characters are legit there’s no guarantee they aren’t just “scrap files”.
Neither Capcom or Nintendo has commented.
