Two new iPhone 5 models, the 5s and 5c, will be released later this month, Apple has announced.

The iPhone 5s will launch on September 20, with prices starting at £549 off-contract for the 16GB model, rising to £709 for the 64GB model. The new premium device features a 64-bit A7 chip, all-new 8 Megapixel iSight Camera with True Tone Flash and a Touch ID Fingerprint Sensor.

A 4-inch Retina display is housed in an anodized aluminium body with diamond cut chamfered edges.

“iPhone 5s is the most forward-thinking smartphone in the world, delivering desktop class architecture in the palm of your hand,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing. “iPhone 5s sets a new standard for smartphones, packed into its beautiful and refined design are breakthrough features that really matter to people, like Touch ID, a simple and secure way to unlock your phone with just a touch of your finger.”

Apple says that the new A7 chip brings 64-bit desktop-class architecture to a smartphone for the first time, delivering up to twice the CPU and graphics performance of the original iPhone 5.

The 5s will be available in three metallic finishes: gold, silver and grey, and will launch September 20 in the US, Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Puerto Rico, Singapore and the UK.

The iPhone 5c will also be released September 20, available in five colours – blue, green, pink, yellow and white – and two sizes: 16GB for £469 and £549 for 32GB.

A 4-inch Retina display is coupled with the A6 chip, 8 megapixel iSight camera and support for more LTE bands than any other smartphone in the world.

“iPhone 5c is everything iPhone 5 was and more, in an all-new design packed with great features,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing. “iPhone 5c is designed with a beautiful polycarbonate enclosure that looks and feels so solid in your hand.”

iPhone 5c features an all-new design crafted from a single, hard-coated polycarbonate body with a steel reinforced frame for a solid, sturdy feel.

In addition, the new iOS 7 update will roll out on September 18 as a free update.
