The Apple development community has delved deep into the iOS 4.3 software of the iPad 2, revealing that the next iPhone will feature the same A5 chip (S5L8940) as the tablet device.

Those with the know-how and access have noticed that the kernelcache.release files for both the iPad 2 and iPhone 5 feature a reference to the same CPU, thus confirming the A5 at the heart of the new smartphone.

The new iPhone is expected to be announced in June.
