Apple will begin to ship the iPad 2 by the end of February 2011, that’s according to sources from Taiwan-based component makers.

DigiTimes sources state Apple originally planned to start mass production of the new iPad in January, but delays in testing the device’s firmware have pushed this date back to February.

It’s thought that initial shipments from Foxconn Electronics will reach 400,000 to 600,000 units.

Both Foxconn and Apple have declined to comment.

Bringing new iterations of products to market is part of Apple’s strategy, so we don’t expect anything different for the iPad.

With over seven million iPads already sold, we expect a more feature rich edition of the device to help maintain demand for the netbook rival.
