EA’s lifestyle management icon The Sims is a hilarious game, one with its own bizarre language and plenty of whacky scenarios. In comparison, Krafton’s competitor InZoi is rather straightforward… when you’re not accidentally running over children

While many compare The Sims vs InZoi, none are doing so more than the new game’s director, Kjun. In a recent interview, the game director explained that the realistic look of the new life simulator stops the team from being able to get really silly, a barrier The Sims doesn’t have to worry about.

InZoi has a silly limit

Speaking to PCGamesN, Kjun explained that the game’s realistic visuals mean they can’t get as silly as The Sims. One example is the censorship of bodies. When a Sim gets unclothed, they’re pixelated, but an InZoi has to wear a towel as the former was deemed “too suggestive”.

“With such realistic graphics, we constantly questioned how far we should take that realism,” the director said. “At times, we wanted to incorporate comical or lighthearted elements, but they didn’t quite fit with the grounded visuals, which was a bit disappointing sometimes.”

On the other hand, the team also admits that the realistic graphical style also has “clear advantages”. While they can’t chase the silly, over-the-top elements that people love about The Sims, the realism also has its own charm.

“They enhance immersion in both building and character customization,” the InZoi director explained. “And the detailed world design has even led to some interesting moments during development. There were times when we looked at screenshots and had to double-check whether they were from the game or real-life photos.”

With players already creating the best InZoi mods, the game is already a great platform for the future. It may not be as funny as The Sims, and it’s A.I. features leave many uncomfortable, but it’s a solid life simulator.
