The closure of PSN following a security breach which saw hackers gain access to the personal data of millions of gamers has had no detrimental effect on the launch schedule for Sucker Punch’s inFamous 2, producer Brian Fleming has told VideoGamer.com.

The action sequel is currently in a beta phase, with the user generated content system coming under scrutiny from fans. However, PSN’s problems have meant beta testers have been unable to upload their creations.

“You know, the biggest thing is that we don’t have the chance to see the people’s missions,” said Fleming. “It hasn’t affected our launch schedule, it’s really just affected – there’s just a whole bunch of people who were invited to the beta that haven’t been able to download it and the people that did get it haven’t been able to upload their missions.

“It hasn’t affected the project development cycle in any profound way.”

Because of PSN’s issues, Fleming says the beta period will be extended to ensure all PS3 gamers invited to take part get the chance to do so.

“There are some people who we invited who didn’t get a chance to download it and so when PSN returns we’re going to make sure they get a good run at it too, because we want to give everybody the chance to get famous.”

Further to this, Sucker Punch Tweeted: “We’ve decided to extend the beta. Once PSN is back up we’ll determine by how long, but rest assured: your outcry has been heard.”

inFamous 2 will be released June 10, only on PS3.
