The recently released Doom Resurrection and earlier Wolfenstein 3D are just the start of id’s plans for the iPhone, with many of the developer’s classic titles to be ported over to the popular handheld. You can expect iPhone versions of Doom, Quake, Quake II and Quake III.

“There’s no doubt that we’ll go through ‘Quake’ and ‘Quake 2.’ I think that I can probably manage to do ‘Quake 3′ on the conventional iPhone platform, if Apple winds up addressing just a few things in their system software. When you start looking at the 3GS, [‘Quake 3’] would not be a problem at all,” id Software co-founder John Carmack told MTV Multiplayer.

There’ll be new from scratch titles too, plus the possibility of an iPhone version of Rage.

Carmack has also revealed he wants to work on a technical proof of concept for running the id Tech 5 megatexture content creation pipeline on the 3GS – he just wants to see what the more powerful device is capable of doing.
