Speaking to Gamasutra, id’s John Carmack and id Mobile’s Anna Kang (Carmack’s wife) have outlined plans for the newly formed mobile division, notably a Wofenstein-type game for Nintendo DS and mobiles.

It’s likely that id Mobile’s “first project is going to be a mobile/DS Wolfenstein-type title,” said Carmack. “After that, we’ll do an original title on the mobile, and what happens after that will determine how we go from there.”

Kang added: “I think the general idea is that we definitely want to make games for the known id IP – Doom and Wolfenstein – but what we will probably be doing is something between the two: one year a known IP, the next year a new IP, and back and forth. We have a lot of great ideas that haven’t been explored yet, and we’re really excited and interested. We’re also excited to be bringing the classics onto the cell phone or DS.”

Carmack also notes that Orcs & Elves for Wii is a possibility: “If Orcs & Elves is successful on the DS, we would like to consider scaling that up to a higher-end sku on the Wii.”

Carmack admits that id has previously ignored Nintendo platforms, but the studio’s decision to work with “lower-end platforms” has changed that. The popularity of Wii and Nintendo DS is likely to have made the decision a little easier too.
