Hyenas developer Creative Assembly is already working on another new action game

Creative Assembly, the developer of the Total War series & Alien Isolation, has announced it’s working on another new action game alongside the upcoming Hyenas.

The studio confirmed the news in a blog post. There, they say that the unnamed title will “establish a new franchise as part of their growing portfolio.”

CA’s Sofia Studio in Bulgaria will be handling the project. They’re looking for developers with experience on the Unreal 5 engine, specifically on third person titles. That might be a clue to what we may expect from the new project.

However, we shouldn’t expect to hear more on whatever it is too soon. The team clarifies that it’ll “be a significant wait before further details are revealed”.

But what of Hyenas? That’s still on the way – here’s what we know so far.

Hyenas – predicted release window, closed alpha

Hyenas is currently pencilled in for a 2023 release window for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4 and PC.

Before then, Creative Assembly has declared it’s holding a Closed Test Alpha for the game on PC. The first phase has already taken place back in July and was for the US only.

However, the team have said they plan to open more phases of testing at a later date, and will open it up to more regions. They also promise to eventually open it up to other platforms too.

Hyenas – what is it, what’s it all about?

Hyenas is a multiplayer FPS, set in a future where big corporations have gutted the Earth to leave for Mars.

However, they’ve left a bunch of space debris with valuable nostalgic trinkets of the pre-destroyed Earth behind. You’ll play as a band of space-pirates, exploring derelict space stations with the aim of making it out with as much loot as possible.

Trying to stop you will be other teams of Hyenas, of course. But also representatives of the corporations trying to protect their wares.

Being set in space, zero-G battles will be a big part of the game. Furthermore, the loot in the game is all pop-culture themed, so expect plenty of recognisable real-world nods; especially to publisher Sega properties like Sonic the Hedgehog.
