According to sales figures released by Media Create for the week ending July 20, Square Enix’s Dragon Quest V has shot straight to the top of the Japanese video game chart with first week sales of 643,764 units.
The DS RPG easily trumped PSP new release Gundam Battle Universe (137,550 units), Persona 4 (40,680), Tears to Tiara: Kakan no Daichi (34,431) and Wii Fit (27,198).
Metal Gear Solid 4 is out of the Top 10 once again, this week at No.13 and is sandwiched between Super Mario Stadium: Family Baseball and Wii Sports.
It’s the PSP which continues to dominate hardware sales, shifting an impressive 74,024 units – approximately 17,000 units more than the previous week. The DS sales are also up week on week, with Media Create reporting 54,531 units sold. Wii sales are down to 40,803 units and PS3 slips once again – losing a further 1,000 units – to 11,253 units.
Xbox 360 sales are up from 3,807 to 4,208 units, with the console showing a definite improvement in sales over the last month.
