Pre-orders for HTC’s upcoming VR headset ‘Vive’ are to open on February 29, the company’s chief executive Cher Wang has told the Telegraph.

The news follows just days after pre-orders went live for rival headset Oculus Rift, which is due to release in March for £499. A price and exact release date for Vive have yet to be announced, although it is expected to ship in April.

HTC Vive was created in partnership with Half-Life developer Valve and comes equipped with a front-mounted camera, allowing users to see the outside world without removing the headset.

It still isn’t known when pre-orders for PS4 headset PlayStation VR are due to go live.
