18 per cent of players in the Gears of War 3 beta managed to unlock the Golden Retro Lancer for use in the final game when it’s released on September 20.
1.29 million people played the beta during its four week availability, 234,000 of which fulfilled the unlock criteria – playing 90 full matches and then getting 100 kills with the weapon itself.
34 per cent of the 1.29 million managed to get their hands on the Thrashball Cole Skin, however; 435,000 players. Cole Train was easier to unlock: you only had to play 50 matches and then 10 games with Thrashball Cole.
Also, Microsoft announced that over 11 million matches had been completed, 927 million kills were recorded, 131 million executions were performed (23 million of them by chainsaw), and over 23 billion bullets were fired. Sounds like a normal weekend in Croydon.
