Fans of the acclaimed Homeworld series look to have reason to celebrate, with the discovery of a US trademark document (pointed out by Shacknews) which indicates the rights to the Homeworld name have moved from Vivendi Universal to THQ – owners of the original Homeworld developer Relic Entertainment.

The transaction took place on August 14, 2007 and was joined by the transfer of Homeworld: Cataclysm, the Homeworld expansion, on the same day.

With the trademark now in the hands of THQ it seems likely the publisher has already attained, or intends to attain the intellectual property rights for the series, clearing the way for a Relic Entertainment developed Homeworld sequel.

Homeworld is a 3D real-time strategy series which puts players in command of an immense space fleet which must battle against enemies from across the galaxy in huge star-scattered battlegrounds.
