THQ’s upcoming war-based FPS Homefront will utilise an Online Pass system for its multiplayer component, the publisher has confirmed to GameFly.

The single-use Online Pass code included in all new copies of the game will unlock the complete multiplayer experience. Gamers accessing multiplayer without the Online Pass will have a limited experience – all multiplayer maps will be available, but a level cap of five will be enforced. Online Pass players can progress to 75.

Those without an Online Pass code in the game box will be able to purchase one online for $10.

The single-player element of Homefront is unaffected.

Homefront will be released March 11 for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.

While a non-issue for gamers who buy the game new, those looking to pick up a cheap used version will be presented with what appears to be an extended multiplayer demo – a clever move by THQ to tempt players to stump up the cash for the full experience.
