THQ has shut down Kaos Studios, the studio responsible for this year’s commercially successful Homefront.

“THQ continues its strategy of aligning the best industry talent with the company’s marquee franchises,” the company said in a statement to Gamasutra.

“The Montreal studio will take over product development and overall creative management for the Homefront franchise. The Montreal studio actively collaborated with Kaos on Homefront.”

THQ has also closed down the UK-based Digital Warrington studio. The studio’s most recent release was the poorly received XBLA tie-in title Red Faction: Battlegrounds. It also developed the upcoming downloadable title, Warhammer 40,000: Kill Team.

The publisher added that it is actively hiring for jobs in its Montreal, Vancouver, and Austin studios, and that former Kaos and Digital Warrington employees are welcome to apply.

I wrote that “there’s enough material within Homefront’s concept for it to spiral into something more interesting, and with plenty of talk about a sequel it’s clear that’s what THQ and Kaos is looking for, but this first crack of the whip falls far short of the competition” back in March as part of my 7/10 Homefront review.

In April, THQ went on record to say reviews matter less than previously thought.
