Homefront, Kaos Studios’ near-future wartime FPS, will launch in the UK on March 11, THQ has confirmed.
Set in the year 2027, the world has suffered a decade-long energy crisis, and economies have crumbled. Reduced to a mere shadow of the super power it once was, the United States became the target of a North Korean takeover. American malls, suburbs and city streets are now battlegrounds as the civilian resistance fights for freedom.
The single-player story, crafted by John Milius (Apocalypse Now, Red Dawn), will see players assume an infantry role or take command of a wide variety of aerial and ground vehicles as they fight for their home.
Homefront will be released on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC. Look out for updated impressions on Friday.
THQ clearly has high hopes for its new FPS – the publisher is already talking about plans for a sequel – but the game will be launching into a highly competitive marketplace.
February will see the release of PS3 juggernaut Killzone 3, while March will have the likes of Dragon Age 2 and Crysis 2 to contend with. THQ’s own Red Faction: Armageddon had been scheduled for a March debut, but is now planned for May. There’s also the launch of the Nintendo 3DS.
