Interesting stats have revealed a huge correlation between fans of Hollow Knight Silksong and the ever-growing soulslike genre consisting of games such as Elden Ring. Both Hollow Knight and Elden Ring are phenomenal experiences, and Silksong has smashed records on Steam, crashing the store and selling over three million copies in less than a week. One of the biggest complaints from some about the long-awaited sequel is its merciless difficulty, but this is actually an attraction many players crave as seen in the overlap with games by FromSoftware.
Nearly half of Hollow Knight Silksong players also played Elden Ring
Rhys Elliott of the Alinea Insight Newsletter has shared some interesting statistics about Hollow Knight Silksong. The newsletter reports that the game has sold over 5 million copies within less than a week, and over 3 million copies sold are on Steam with the game making $50M+ in revenue on Valve’s platform.
In addition to the above, Elliott dived into what other types of games Silksong fans predominantly played. Surprisingly, these statistics revealed a huge overlap with the soulslike genre and games by FromSoftware. According to the newsletter, 47% of Silksong fans on Steam also played Elden Ring, 34% played Dark Souls 3, and 33% enjoyed Sekiro Shadows Die Twice.
Other games played by Silksong fans on Steam include Dead Cells at 36% and Ori and the Will of the Wisps at 30%, but it’s interesting that the biggest overlap is FromSoftware. While Elden Ring could be dismissed as many people just playing two of the most highly anticipated and popular games of the decade, the overlap extends beyond just popularity as evidenced by Dark Souls 3 and Sekiro.
While Silksong and FromSoftware games look nothing alike at a glance, there is the common similarity of merciless difficulty and punishing boss fights. Both games are insanely hard, and they have the gameplay loop of needing to retrieve what was lost upon death.
If you’re a fan of FromSoftware and haven’t yet purchased Hollow Knight Silksong, it’s definitely a game you should give a chance as it should satisfy everything you enjoy about games from Hidetaka Miyazaki.
In other Elden Ring news, fans are already playing the Deep of the Night hard mode before its official release on September 12th.
