HMV has confirmed it will not be accepting copies of Resident Evil: The Mercenaries as part of its RePlay trade-in program.

It came to light earlier this week that Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D does not allow data to be reset, potentially limiting the game’s second-hand value. At the time Capcom denied retailers would have an issue accepting the title for trade-in.

“The game’s value at second hand in the UK is not affected by whether or not the game can have its data reset,” said Capcom. “Customers in the UK will not experience a reduced second-hand value should they wish to trade in their purchase.”

However, it appears HMV isn’t humming the same tune as Capcom, with the retailer’s head of PR Gennaro Castaldo telling VG247 that it won’t be accepting the title to “avoid any potential customer disappointment for those purchasing a pre-owned version”.

Meanwhile the GAME group’s GAME and gamestation stores have no plans to refuse the game.
