Despite the news that Square Enix had unexpectedly dropped the Hitman developer, IO Interactive has reportedly retained the rights to the Hitman franchise. What’s more, reports German site GameStar, via. PCGamesN, season 2 of last year’s episodic reboot is still on the way.

According to GameStar’s ‘reliable circles’ Season 2 is definitely still on the cards, and is already about half way completed.

This is still not officially confirmed anywhere, but it would make sense if IO did retain the Hitman license. It would make the studio much more valuable and allow Square Enix to sell it for a higher price. Fingers crossed, eh?

GameStar says they’re expecting an official comment from IO next week. We’ll update you if that’s the case.
