Variety reports that Hitman 2, the sequel to the Timothy Olyphant assassin movie based on the hit video game franchise, will feature story elements taken from the upcoming fifth game in the video game series.

According to Variety IO’s next Agent 47 title will be released in late 2010.

IO’s community manager has moved to calm confusion amongst Hitman fans concerned that the game will be a movie-license: “I can tell you that there is no way we will be basing a storyline for a new Hitman game on the story in a licensed movie. That’s just not how we work so you shouldn’t be concerned about that.”

The first Hitman movie was released in 2007 and grossed $100 million.
