All PlayStation Plus users will be able to download and play the Hitman beta on PS4 next week, Square Enix has announced.

The beta had previously only been available to players who had pre-ordered the game, but will open up to all PlayStation Plus users from next Friday, March 4. The beta includes access to the game’s ‘Prologue’, one of two areas located in the game’s first episode on March 11. It is not scheduled to come to Xbox One, nor has Square announced plans to open it up to all users on PC.

“Our initial beta was an extremely helpful moment for our new HITMAN game, as it gave us great insight into how the server game mechanics function under pressure,” said IO Interactive studio head Hanne Seifert. “A lot of those pressure points are currently being strengthened for release.

“Now Sony have given us the opportunity to go even bigger to validate some of the initial things we saw. Therefore we are inviting everyone who is a PlayStation Plus member to try the same beta and you don’t have to pre-order the game. This will allow us to really stress test our server setup, which is a crucial element for us to get just right.”

Alongside the announcement, Square also released a CGI trailer featuring locations from earlier games in the series, taking players back on “a journey through some iconic Hitman moments”. You can check that out below.

Hitman’s first episode launches on PS4, Xbox One and PC on March 11, and features the Prologue mission and Paris location. Additional episodes featuring new locations are due to roll out in the months following release.
