The fact that many developers are already targeting higher specs with PC builds of games will work to the advantage of the Xbox Scorpio, Xbox boss Phil Spencer has suggested.
The Scorpio is Microsoft’s 6TF behemoth planned for holiday 2017, and is expected to easily eclipse the capabilities of the PS4 Pro which arrives on November 10.
“Most devs are already targeting higher specs with their PC builds,” Spencer told an Xbox fan on Twitter. “Teams have art assets and engine to use power.”
He added: “For shipped games that later come to Scorpio I’d expect teams would bring PC builds tuned for 6TF GPUs on PC.”
As for how the extra power of the Scorpio will be utilised, Spencer reaffirmed that this is down to those making the games.
“Publishers will decide how they want to upgrade, we will work with them to ensure platform supports their plans,” he said.
The reality is likely to be much the same as PS4 Pro, with many existing Xbox One games being patched to utilise the extra power of Scorpio, be that higher frame rates, improved effects, reduced aliasing or higher resolutions.
