In a post over on PlayStation.Blog, Eric Lempel, Director of PlayStation Network Operations has revealed that PS3 firmware 1.82 will be released in the next few days.
As with previous updates don’t expect a flurry of new features, but a few select additions. 1.82 will enable playback of AVC High Profile (H.264/MPEG-4) files.
Unfortunately there appears to be no improvements to backwards compatibility, with Lempel merely adding: “We’re continuing to evaluate and improve things across the board, including PS2 software compatibility.
Expect firmware 1.82 to roll out later this week.
