The Helldivers 2 Cyborgs update was released on February 10 and has sparked a significant surge in the game’s player count on Steam. According to SteamDB, the game jumped from a low of 46,686 players on February 9 to a peak of 154,879 on February 10, followed by a current peak of 173,188 on February 11. This marks the highest peak player count since 178,795 on September 1, 2025, six months ago.

Since the game’s release in February 2024, the highest all-time peak for Helldivers 2 remains 458,709 concurrent players. While developer Arrowhead is unlikely to surpass this record ever, there is a chance the player count could continue to climb and overtake last September’s peak.

Of course, these player count figures do not account for PlayStation 5, nor the growing Xbox community since the game launched on Series X/S in August 2025. However, as illustrated by senior analyst Rhys Elliott of Alinea Analytics, the majority of Helldivers 2’s 20 million sales have come from Steam, with 13 million units sold on Valve’s storefront. This makes it the “most successful” PlayStation-published game released on Steam by a significant margin.

The September player peak coincided with the release of the Into the Unjust update. This update took us inside the Gloom with Gloom Caves and introduced new enemies, including the Dragonroach. While Into the Unjust reignited interest in Helldivers 2, it also marked the beginning of a difficult end to 2025, as Arrowhead paused major content updates to address poor PC performance and other significant issues.

Fortunately, since Into the Unjust, Arrowhead has significantly improved the core experience and reduced the game’s excessive PC file size to bring it more in line with PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. As a result, the Cyborgs update has launched in a much stronger state. The hope now is that Arrowhead can maintain its current momentum throughout 2026 as game director Mikael Eriksson teases plans to expand the game’s scope.

Arrowhead has not shared plans beyond Cyberstan, but CCO Johan Pilestedt has discussed the desire to introduce sequel-defining features such as eight-player missions. The studio has also expressed interest in raising the level cap, with previous leaks suggesting it could increase to 200, and bringing back more vehicles from the first game.
