Around 0.4 per cent of PlayStation 4 consoles are expected to suffer from hardware faults at launch, Sony has revealed.
The figure was revealed by a Sony representative who confirmed to Game Informer that “a handful of people have reported issues with their PlayStation 4 systems.
“This is within our expectations for a new product introduction, and the vast majority of PS4 feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. We are closely monitoring for additional reports, but we think these are isolated incidents and are on track for a great launch.”
Game Informer anticipates that the figure means that around 20,000 PS4 consoles will suffer hardware problems within the first few months, “based on a projection of five million units sold by end of fiscal year (March 31, 2014)”.
Multiple users reported issues with their PlayStation 4 console earlier this week, including US outlets IGN and Kotaku.
Sony Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida announced yesterday that Sony was “investigating” a “small” number of reports of hardware failure.
