Greg Fischbach, founder of defunct publisher Acclaim Entertainment, has stated the next step for Kinect is in discovering “How to make [it] work in the hardcore gaming environment”.

Fischbach, who is currently heading the publisher behind Kinect game Yoostar 2, said: “I think that what the stats show with respect to the early launch of Kinect is that it appealed probably to a more hardcore audience than was anticipated by Microsoft, and that’s because hardcore gamers are early adopters.”

He continued: “And now the question is, if you listen to what Microsoft is doing, is to how do we make Kinect work in the Hardcore Gaming Environment? How do we add value and how do we add a play mechanic that works with Call of Duty and makes it fun to play. Or Assassin’s Creed?”

While the likes of Wii U have already made promises to cater to the hardcore market, it’s difficult to imagine how a legitimate hardcore title could be interpreted for Kinect. Even more difficult to imagine are hardcore gamers comfortable with trading the accuracy of a controller with the ‘novelty’ of motion sensors.
