Microsoft has announced that Halo: Reach sold 3.3 million units in the US in September, following its launch on September 14.

This matches the sales of Halo 3, which shifted 3.3 million back in September 2007, but comes some way short of Modern Warfare 2’s 4.2 million copies sold in November 2009.

We know the game managed to shift 300,000 copies during its first 24 hours on sales in the UK.

When a game sells 3.3 million units in just a few weeks on the market it’s clearly a huge success. However, Halo: Reach’s inability to shift more units than Halo 3, despite the growth in the Xbox 360’s installed base, must be seen as a slight disappointment. Perhaps we’ll have to wait for the inevitable Halo 4 to see that happen.
