Halo: Reach has been leaked a whole month ahead of its September 14, 2010 release date, reports IGN.
A group of game modders were able to break through Microsoft’s security and download the game from Xbox LIVE Marketplace, where a review copy of the highly anticipated Xbox 360 exclusive had been placed for members of the video games media to download.
The group does not intent to distribute the game.
“So after a lot of .xex cracking etc.. Me and my team finally did it, we got Halo: Reach!,” the modders said. “This is not released for public, and we are not really planning on releasing either.”
“We are aware of claims being made regarding a security exploit related to ‘Halo: Reach’ and are aggressively investigating the matter,” a Microsoft spokesperson told IGN. “We have no further details to share at this time.”
Meanwhile Bungie forum moderators have advised all fans wishing to remains 100 per cent spoiler free should “go dark” by staying away from internet gaming forums.
