Microsoft’s flagship Halo franchise was surprisingly absent from the annual Xbox Games Showcase last week. While Xbox boss Phil Spencer teased the release of the Halo: Combat Evolved Remake next year, the franchise was completely absent from the gaming showcase.
However, it seems that a Halo release is just around the corner with the series making its PlayStation debut later this year. According to a renowned dataminer for the franchise, references to a PlayStation 5 port have been discovered in the series’ tracked API.
Halo PS5 port coming soon
Discovered by Halo dataminer Grunt.API, who has an almost-perfect track record, references to a Halo PS5 port have been discovered in the retail API. In the past, the dataminer has leaked updates, cut content, and accurate player numbers for the entire series,
The dataminer explained that the Halo retail API now lists a PlayStation 5 version of “a Halo game”, but it doesn’t say what title will be making a jump to the console. The leaker explained that the port has a brand-new ID, but they don’t believe it’s Halo: The Master Chief Collection.
This could mean that Halo Infinite, the current ongoing Halo game, will release on PlayStation 5 later this year. While there’s “no ETA” on a specific release date, the Halo PS5 port does exist within 343’s API.
While the Halo PS5 port has been discovered, there’s no references to a Nintendo Switch 2 port for the series. This is despite Microsoft’s continued statements that it plans to support the new Nintendo handheld with releases just PS5. Disconcertingly, even Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 isn’t coming to the new console despite releasing on Xbox One and PS4.
Nevertheless, with Forza Horizon 5 on PS5 and Gears of War almost on the console, it makes no sense to keep just Halo restricted to Xbox. After a rough few years for the franchise, bringing the game to PlayStation 5 might just give the series the jab of adrenaline it needs to be a big hitter once again.
