The Xbox Games Showcase has announced the next annual entry in the Call of Duty franchise. Coming straight after Black Ops 6, the next entry in the FPS juggernaut series is officially Call of Duty: Black Ops 7. No, we’re not kidding.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 announced
While Black Ops 6 has proven controversial due to its heavy microtransactions and issues like advertisements in loadout screens, it’s also proven extremely popular. Announced at the end of the showcase, not much was revealed about the upcoming shooter.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 will release later this year on Xbox Series, Xbox One, PS5, PS5, and PC via Xbox, Battle Net and PC. Just like last year’s entry in the annual series, the game will launch Day One on Xbox Game Pass for console, PC and cloud.
“Our official teaser sets the tone for players to embrace the madness that’s incoming with Black Ops 7’s story,” explained Head of Activision Publishing and Marketing Tyler Bahl in a press release. “Delivering consecutive Black Ops games also allows our teams the tremendous opportunity to tap not only into our own creativity but also embrace the shift from a ’90s setting to the new 2035 future setting within our marketing.”
The upcoming sequel aims to deliver “the full Call of Duty package for out players”, which likely means a full-fledged multiplayer mode, Zombies and also a cinematic campaign. More details will be revealed later “this summer” with a specific showcase designed for the new shooter.
Similar to Black Ops 2 and Black Ops 4, Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 is another futurstic take on the series. Players will be put in the role of Alex Mason’s son David Mason, played by Heroes actor Mile Ventimiglia. Set in 2035, players will have access to near-future weaponry that weren’t possible in the past game.
