Halo 5: Guardians recorded a day one gross revenue of £7.7 million in the UK, Microsoft has announced.

The figure compares favourably to the first day box office revenue in the UK of Spectre, which made £6.3 million, Microsoft has said.

The game entered the UK chart at No.1, outpacing the launch week figures of The Master Chief Collection and Assassin’s Creed Syndicate by 50 per cent.

To put Halo 5’s sales into perspective, GTA 5 launched in September 2013 on PS3 and Xbox 360 and shifted 1.57 million units within its first 24 hours on sale, generating a reported £65m in revenue.
