Chart Track has announced that Halo 3 has entered the UK All Formats Chart at No.1 and has become the second fastest selling video game ever in the UK – only GTA: San Andreas is able to better the sales of Halo 3.
Approximately 1 in 3 Xbox 360 owners bought Halo 3 in its first week on sale, equating to nearly 500,000 units sold in the UK. In contrast GTA: San Andreas sold to 1 in 10 of the 6.6 million PlayStation 2 install base or approximately 660,000 units. Halo 3 has also come out on top of its predecessor which only attracted first week sales of approximately 1 in 6 of the Xbox install base.
As hoped, Halo 3 has helped shift Xbox 360 consoles with sales more than doubling week on week to the highest level seen this year. The rise in sales also helped the Xbox 360 outsell the Wii for the first time since week 13. Software sales also reached an all time high, beating that of week 51 in 2006.
