Microsoft has confirmed reports that no midnight launch for Halo 3 will take place along London’s Oxford Street because of Westminster Council’s concerns of huge crowds. However, midnight launches will be taking place around London and the rest of the UK.
“… although we are not going to be running any official midnight opening events along London’s Oxford Street (due to from Westminster Council concerns of huge crowds) we are pleased to confirm that over 1,000 retailers around London and the rest of the UK will be opening up at midnight to ensure fans can get their copy of Halo 3 it as soon as humanly possible,” said Stephen McGill, Head of Gaming and Entertainment, Microsoft UK.
McGill also notes that many stores which won’t be opening at midnight will be opening early on Wednesday, September 26 to ensure Halo fans can get their hands on the highly anticipated title as early as possible.
Although no official midnight launch, Microsoft will be celebrating the launch of Halo 3 with a unique opportunity to play the game on a giant screen inside the BFI IMAX cinema in Waterloo – the UK’s biggest cinema screen.
This event will take place on Tuesday, September 25 with lucky fans and a number of top celebrities going head to head playing Halo 3 on the giant screen. Tickets to the event can be won at xbox.com along with giveaways in The Daily Telegraph on Saturday and next Tuesday on Kiss FM.
