Microsoft points towards early reports showing that Xbox 360 console sales have more than doubled compared to the weekly average before the launch of Halo 3.

Although still to release official sales figures for the game, Microsoft has said that more than 2.7 million gamers have played Halo 3 on Xbox LIVE in its first week, racking up more than 40 million hours of online play. Since the game’s launch gamers have unlocked 30 million achievements and record numbers of new Xbox LIVE Gold Memberships have been created with gamers eager to play online with friends.
