Microsoft and Bungie have announced that the recent Halo 3 beta was a huge success, with more than 820,000 unique participants having taken part. The combined online time of all players was a staggering 12 million hours, which Microsoft says is equal to a single person playing non-stop for 1,400 years.
The stats don’t stop there. According to Microsoft more than 350 terabytes of data was downloaded from Xbox Live, and beta testers saved a total of 580,000 replays accounting for more than 2.7 terabytes.
“The participation in the ‘Halo 3’ beta was staggering,” said Shane Kim, corporate vice president of Microsoft Game Studios. “Witnessing such a great reaction to a small portion of the game has been inspiring. It’s a testament to the fervor and anticipation that surrounds ‘Halo 3.’ We’re confident that on Sept. 25 Halo 3 will drive an unprecedented wave of new gamers to the Xbox 360 platform and Xbox LIVE.“
Microsoft has also taken the opportunity to announce a selection of Halo 3 themed peripherals, including two new limited edition Halo 3 Wireless Controllers designed by Todd McFarlane. Gamers will also be able to purchase a limited edition Wireless Headset. These peripherals will be released in September priced £34.99.
Halo 3 is scheduled for release across Europe on September 26.
