Microsoft has announced the latest sales figures for the follow-up to 2002’s highly acclaimed galactic First-Person Shooter, Halo. Released in November of last year amid furore over a pre-release leak, Halo 2 nonetheless garnered (almost) universal acclaim, racking up increasingly impressive sales figures, despite heavy competition from titles such as Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, and the equally anticipated Half-Life 2.
Now, Microsoft has announced that sales for the game have reached an imposing 6.4 million worldwide, with 4.4 million being sold in North America alone. These figures bring total sales for the fledgling franchise to over the 10 million mark.
The figures also neatly complement the announcement that, assisted in no small part by Halo 2, Xbox’s generally well-received Xbox Live online gaming service has reached record usage figures, showing that the online revolution is well and truly under way.
