The Nvidia Shield tablet will soon receive a version of Valve’s Half-Life 2: Episode One, Nvidia has announced.

The ground-breaking first-person shooter has been optimised for the Tegra K1 chip and will be part of a Green Box bundled free with the 32GB/LTE version of Shield. Also included in the bundle is Half-Life 2 and Portal.

A host of other Tegra K1 optimised games are also coming to Google Play, including:

Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath – A drifter turned bounty hunter is set loose in this sprawling action-adventure game.

Pure Pool – Superb visual effects and multi-player action make for a sophisticated take on a virtual pool hall.

Strike Suit Zero – Born Ready Games’ space combat game features sprawling space battles gamers can experience on SHIELD’s 8-inch display or big-screen TVs.

Turbo Dismount – The legendary crash simulator is now on Android, with smooth full resolution 4x MSAA visuals on SHIELD tablet.

Furthermore, Nvidia has announced that the new Android 5.0 Lollipop update is coming to Shield on November 18, making it one of the first tablets to receive the update. Users can look forward to a new “material design” interface and improved app performance.

Nvidia’s announcements don’t stop there, with news that it will launch its ‘Netflix for Games’ cloud service GRID in North America this month and Western Europe in December. The service promises to bring Nvidia GTX PC games to Shield devices.

More than 20 “AAA” titles are available, including Batman: Arkham City, Borderlands 2 and Psychonauts, with additional games promised to arrive every week. Nvidia is also offering GRID for free on Shield tablet and Shield portable through June 30, 2015.
