SEGA and Treasure’s rather excellent Mega Drive run ‘n’ gun shooter, Gunstar Heroes, is available now on the App Store.

The acclaimed 16-bit action game sees players taking control of Gunstar twin Red or Blue, and must defeat Colonel Red’s army to keep him from activating the Mystical Gems and destroying planet Gunstar 9.

As protectors of the planet Gunstar 9, the Gunstar Red and Blue twins must defeat Colonel Red and the Emperor before the evildoers can bring robot Golden Silver to life and destroy their beloved galactic home.

The action can also be tackled cooperatively with a friend, by connecting iOS devices wirelessly via Bluetooth.

Gunstar Heroes is out now priced £1.79 and is compatible with iOS 3.0 or later iPhones, iPods and iPads.

Gunstar Heroes is one of the best games from the 16-bit generation, so at £1.79 it’s well worth a look.

Be warned that the on-screen virtual controls make the game even harder than it was with the controller, so if your idea of a challenge is Angry Birds or Cut the Rope you might want to give this a miss.
