IGN has got the exclusive reveal on the first Guitar Hero title for Nintendo DS. The game’s been in development for some time now, but Activision has finally taken the lid off its portable rock tool.

Guitar Hero: On Tour is in development at Vicarious Visions, the people behind the Wii version of Guitar Hero III, and promises to include the same rhythm-based gameplay as the home console versions. This is made possible by what Red Octane is calling the Guitar Grip, a peripheral which plugs into the DS and includes four fret buttons.

The game will also include a specially designed stylus pick, used to strum the guitar strings on the touch-screen. The game will also make use of the DS microphone, IGN indicating it will control the activation of Star Power.

IGN also notes that the game will feature a similar single-player Career Mode to the console games, plus a line-up of more than 20 licensed songs from bands including Nirvana, OK Go and No Doubt. There’ll also be six different guitarists to choose from, two of which are new to the Guitar Hero series.

Single-player will be joined by multiplayer modes, offering both cooperative play and verses modes for two players using local wireless.

Guitar Hero: On Tour is scheduled for release this summer.
