Activision has today announced Guitar Hero: Aerosmith, the next installment in the multi-million selling Guitar Hero franchise.

For the first time a game has been built around the legendary music of the legendary rock band Aerosmith, and puts players in the shoes of Joe Perry (guitar), Brad Whitford (guitar) and Tom Hamilton (bass) as they rock out alongside Steve Tyler and drummer Joey Kramer.

Gamers will experience the band’s career, from their first gig, through their rise to rock royalty. Rock out to some of Aerosmith’s greatest hits, plus songs from celebrated artists the band has either performed with or has been inspired by.

“Any band that can go from ‘Don’t Want to Miss A Thing’ (Aerosmith’s #1 smash hit) to the ass-kicking ‘Sweet Emotion’ to the cheekiness of ‘Love in an Elevator,’ to the classic ballad ‘Dream On’ shows why Activision chose us to headline this game based on the diversity of the Aerosmith catalog. Not only is songwriting a bitch, but then it goes and has puppies,” said Steven Tyler.

Neversoft is handling development of the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions, Vicarious Visions the Wii version, while Budcat is handling the PlayStation 2 version.

To celebrate the announcement, Activision is offering Guitar Hero III fans the opportunity to download Aerosmith’s ‘Dream On’. The song will be available from February 16-18 on Xbox LIVE Marketplace and PlayStation Store.

Guitar Hero: Aerosmith is scheduled for release in June 2008.
