The final profession to join Guild Wars 2, Mesmers, has been detailed on the official website for the upcoming MMO.
Mesmers function as magic duelists who rely on using powerful illusions to succeed against enemies. Listed among their available Illusions are Clones, which create exact replicas of the caster, including their name and basic behaviours.
Clones are relatively low level, however Mesmer players can use them to either carry out an Illusionary Leap ability which summons a clone at their location and jumps them forward, or a simple Leap which launches the user forward and leaves a clone at their earlier location.
Mesmers can also cast Phantasms, which function similarly to Clones however carry illusionary weapons unlike Clones, have more health and cause more damage.
The new profession can also activate Mantras, a two-phased skill:
“The mesmer first activates the mantra, which has a long cast time and replaces that skill slot with an instant-casting skill that the mesmer can then use. Mantras are powerful because many can be charged up before battle and then used in the middle of another spell, without interrupting that spell.”
The skills available to the Mesmer profession range from Veil, Mirror Images, Chaos Storm, Mind Wrack, and Portal.
Additionally, a new condition has been added to the game – Confused Condition. This casts confusion on an enemy and causes damage to them each time they attempt to activate a skill. Confusion stacks in intensity and causes more damage as time goes on.
Finally, special abilities that shatter the Mesmer illusions will also be at their disposal. Destroying illusions will either stun, damage, confuse, or create a barrier around the Mesmer user to reflect enemy projectiles.
ArenaNet’s system design Jon Peters will be conducting an Ask Me Anything on Reddit starting from 18:00 GMT.
The Mesmer profession was revealed just this week, after a video referencing the profession was leaked online.
Guild Wars 2 is scheduled to release in 2012.
