Drinkbox Studios has confirmed that Mexican-flavoured platformers Guacamelee! and Guacamelee! 2 are heading to Nintendo Switch this year. Well, to be more precise, the first game is actually out today in the shape of Guacamelee! Super Turbo Championship Edition.

As you might have guessed, this re-release of 2013's acclaimed chicken-powered platformer includes the base game, plus all available post-launch content released to date. It's out now on the eShop for $14.99.

Guacamelee! 2 meanwhile is scheduled for release in December, and was previously released on PlayStation 4 and PC in August. Colm quite liked it, so it's worth a shot.

Featuring Metroidvania-style progression (the game even doffs its cap to Samus' exploits with 'choozo' statues; a reference to Metroid's own Chozo statues), Guacamelee! puts its own spin on the proceedings by channelling Mexican culture and folklore, with protagonist Juan able to hop between the world of the living and dead.

The sequel expands on things with more enemies and powers, with the brilliant chicken transformation now overhauled with its own unique moveset and abilities.
