There’s a lot for the Grand Theft Auto community to be excited about regarding GTA 6. Huge patents from Take-Two Interactive support rumors about a massive player count increase for Online, and a Grammy-winning music producer has previously talked about conversations with Rockstar, implying significant changes to music stations. While all of this is exciting, job listings also suggest Rockstar is planning a new app for mobile devices. Following the recent closure of Rockstar Games Social Club, there are rumors that Rockstar is planning a revolutionary new app that will keep players addicted outside of GTA 6.
GTA 6 app rumored to replace Rockstar Social Club
Rockstar Games Social Club was shut down on July 15th. As shared by videotechuk_ on X, the URL now simply redirects to the main homepage of Rockstar’s website. Videotechuk_ adds “Social Club was incredibly outdated with more cases of crews being hijacked, accounts being targeted easily,” and they also teased Rockstar are “most likely finally working on a new platform ready for GTAVI”.
As for GTA 6, job listings have suggested an app for mobile devices is in-development. Job listings have included responsibilities such as developing features across Rockstar’s iOS and Android codebases and contributing to the “design and architecture of new features and improvements for the mobile platform”.
We don’t know what this new app is, but YouTuber Cyber Boi claims to have received a message from an alleged insider informing them that Rockstar Social Club would shut down “Probs mid July”. In addition, the alleged insider claimed, “there appears to be a lot of activity in regards to a custom CMS for players to use outside of the game”. The insider added, “Couldn’t tell you if that’s before or post-launch though, not clued up on that”.
The identity of the insider isn’t revealed, but they were accurate about Rockstar Social Club shutting down mid-July, so it’s possible they are right about Rockstar planning a “custom CMS for players to use outside of the game”.
Unfortunately, there’s no more details provided. We don’t know exactly what the app is, but Cyber Boi has speculated the possibility of it being a sort of social hub where players can share videos, images, and comments, perhaps a real-life counterpart of a social media app that will be used in-game for GTA 6. This isn’t confirmed as it’s simply speculation based off Rockstar’s job listings as well as the heavy social media influence seen in the trailers.
Cyber Boi also believes from their own experience in marketing that the app will be designed to frequently push notifications to your phone to keep players clicking and invested. The obvious comparison for this would again be social media apps such as TikTok.
While it’s clear Rockstar are working on an app to replace the now defunct Rockstar Social Club, we will have to wait and see what the app ends up being. A social media-esque app for Rockstar to market Online and for users to share content would be incredible, and it’s something that would allow players to always access Vice City away from playing the game.
In other Grand Theft Auto news, fans should get ready for GTA 6 to appear all over the globe as Rockstar has finished their recruitment for marketing.
