There are a boatload of exciting rumors about GTA 6. A Grammy-winning music producer has shared details about custom radio stations from alleged discussions with Rockstar, meanwhile, an exciting patent supports leaks that suggest GTA Online will receive a massive player count boost. While this is exciting, there’s also leaks from earlier this year that support predictions GTA 6 will be the “next UGC platform” like Roblox and Fortnite.
GTA 6 leaks support Roblox and Fortnite prediction
Recently John Chapman of Konvoy shared the firm’s predictions for GTA 6. These predictions include the game costing $80 and making $7.6 billion in less than 60 days. They also predict the game will make its estimated $2 billion budget back in under 30 days, and will sell 85 million copies in just two months. They also expect Rockstar to sell 35 million copies in just three days, which is wild considering how big GTA 5 was selling 11 million copies in just three days and generating $1 billion back in 2013.
Konvoy also predicts Online will have 200-person lobbies, and that it will be “the next UGC platform”. This UGC prediction specifically states GTA 6 “will have a UGC component that includes creator payouts for server hosts, mod creators, and more (mimicking the creator economics of UEFN and Roblox)”.
While there’s nothing to support 200-person lobbies, there are leaks dating back to February that reveal Rockstar’s UGC ambitions. According to Digiday from three industry insiders who requested to stay anonymous, Rockstar has been in “discussions with top Roblox and Fortnite creators, as well as dedicated ‘GTA’ content creators, about the potential to create custom experiences inside the upcoming game… These experiences would allow creators to modify the game’s environment and assets to bring their own intellectual property — and potentially their brand sponsors — into ‘GTA’s’ virtual sandbox”.
Allegedly, the conversations “remained relatively open-ended” with it “unclear exactly how creators would benefit from bringing their IP and audiences into ‘GTA 6,’ beyond the exposure that would come from having a presence inside one of the world’s most popular gaming properties”. Konvoy is predicting there will be “creator payouts” similar to the economics of Roblox and UEFN for Fortnite, but Digiday couldn’t confirm what incentives other than exposure will be offered.
In addition, Digiday stated Rockstar has previously “declined to bring in real-life brands or advertisers” for Grand Theft Auto installments, citing in-game rip-offs such as Sprunk instead of Sprite, and Krapea instead of Ikea. While spoofing of real-life products such as the iFruit phone instead of the iPhone will remain, GTA 6 aiming to becoming “the next big metaverse” platform has “some observers [hoping] that Rockstar’s attitude towards ads will warm up”.
We will have to wait and see what becomes of GTA 6 Online when it releases. GTA 5 Online was a juggernaut that was so successful it’s blamed for stopping Rockstar from doing single-player DLC such as the cancelled Agent Trevor, as well as the highly-requested Undead Nightmare for Red Dead Redemption 2. GTA 6 Online will be at the forefront of Rockstar for over a decade, and we’re excited to see the developer’s ambitions.
In other Grand Theft Auto news, a revolutionary app is rumored to replace the now defunct Rockstar Social Club.
