Grand Theft Auto 4 “is the biggest title the PS3 has ever seen” and has been “invaluable” to Sony, David Reeves, SCEE president has said.

Speaking to VideoGamer.com after his presentation to media at PlayStation Day in London last night, Reeves declined to go into detail on European sales figures, but did say Rockstar’s epic had “spiked sales” of the PS3.

“It’s been invaluable for us,” he said. “It’s obviously the biggest title that PS3 has ever seen. It’s spiked sales and we’re very happy with the way the bundle has sold and we’re very happy with the way that software has gone as well.”

This week ChartTrack revealed that 926,000 copies of GTA 4 were sold in the UK during the game’s first five days on sale. According to Gamasutra 514,000 were on Xbox 360, 413,000 on PS3, giving Microsoft 55% of the spoils.

ChartTrack’s figures also revealed that GTA 4 had boosted hardware sales tremendously, the PS3 by 127% over the previous week and the Xbox 360 125%.

Reeves, however, wouldn’t go into detail on figures for GTA 4 on PS3 in Europe.

He said: “I think you’ll get the UK figures from ChartTrack. But I’m not going to quote any figures until we get… I think what we have to do is to do that with Take 2 and Rockstar together. I don’t think we’re able to just say that’s exactly what we’ve sold. But we’re extremely happy with the way things have gone. The reorders are phenomenal and they’re just trying to press as many Blu-ray discs in Salzburg as they can.”
