Sony’s PS3 exclusive racer Gran Turismo 5 has shipped 5.5 million units to retailers since launch. It’s an impressive figure for the heavily delayed title, proving that the series still has a legion of hardcore fans.

The Gran Turismo series to date has now reached a colossal 60 million units shipped, showing how far its come since its debut on the original PlayStation in 1997.

Despite a backlash against GT5 from some quarters, largely aimed at the frankly terrible menus and lacking online features, GT5 still did the business for Sony. Any long term effects of GT5’s problems probably won’t be felt until another game in the series hits stores – which, let’s me honest, isn’t likely to be any time soon.
