The free Gran Turismo HD download is already available to Japanese and US PlayStation 3 gamers and soon European gamers will be able to get in on the racing action. SCEE has confirmed that the glimpse at the future of the series will be available from the PlayStation Store when the system launches across Europe on March 23.

In GT HD players have only the Eiger Nordwand track in the Swiss Alps to race around, with the goal to complete the circuit within the set time with the ten cars on offer. This time trial mode will also be linked to online leaderboards, enabling players to track down who the best driver really is. In addition to Time Trial the game also features a new Drift Trial mode.

Obviously the game has also been given a visual boost from its days on the PS2 and fully supports 1080p.

The European press release also reveals that this is just the start of a very big year for the title, noting that “Gran Turismo HD Concept is just the beginning.“
