ITV4 is to broadcast a six-episode series covering the Nissan PlayStation GT Academy contest, Sony has announced.

The GT Academy takes some of the best Gran Turismo gamers and turns one of them into a professional racing driver with Nissan.

The character-driven TV series will be broadcast on ITV4 on Mondays at 8pm, with the first programme airing on February 4. Each episode will be repeated on Saturday early evening and Sunday morning slots.

The shows will focus on the six winners from the UK and Ireland National Final who arrive at the Silverstone Circuit in August 2012, where the transition from virtual expert to real racing driver began.

Irish television presenter Craig Doyle will be on hard to capture all the highs and lows of GT Academy, following the progress of the six competitors, as they face a series of knockout challenges judged by a panel of experts.
