Sony Computer Entertainment Europe and Polyphony Digital have announced that Gran Turismo 5 Prologue will be released on Blu-ray disc at retail and as a download from PSN at the end of the year.

Prologue will act as a taste of what’s to come with the full Gran Turismo 5 game in 2008. Unlike GT HD, Prologue has been designed for the next-generation and features new driving physics, improved AI and stunning car models. The game will run at 1080p with in-race action moving at a smooth 60fps while replays will drop down to 30fps.

The game will feature more than 40 cars, including vehicles by Lotus, Mitsubishi, Nissan and Ferrari, which can be raced around three real-life tracks: Eiger Nordwand, the London City Track and Suzuka. Each circuit will also feature alternate routes and reverse variations.

For the first time in the history of Gran Turismo, players will now be able to race online against up to 15 other racers. When racing is over Global Online Ranking will prove who’s the world’s best racer.

Expect details regarding a release date and pricing later this year.
